North Shore Trails

This is a list of trails that I have ridden, of course, this is not a complete list since many times I have no clue what the name of the trail is that I am riding... I'm slowly getting better at that!

Trail Name Description
CBC
This is a great trail maintained by the north shore mountain biking club. It has a lot of sky rides, cobble stone, ramps and erosion guards to protect the environment. It is a very fun trail, however if it is wet, it is horrible. Since it is higher on the mountain, during the wet season this trail is soft and muddy!
TNT
A connecter trail from the end of CBC to the mushroom parking lot.
Old Mushroom Trail
A trail that takes you to the mushroom parking lot. (Which is the beginning of Neds.
Dale's Trail
Upper Dale's
Ned's Atomic Dustbin

This is a great intermediate run. There is a wide variety of terrain and it is also the longest intermediate run on Seymour. A great trail to learn on... not to mention it finishes very close to where I live.

Update: This trail has recently been upgraded to a black diamond. I think the reason is because there have been a few technical log rides, bridges and jumps added along the way. I do this trail the most of any run just because it ends near my house.

Bottle Top
Another great intermediate run with excellent views. This is a nice warm up trail or one for building skill on doing more technical climbs.
Mystery Creek
Hyannis Trail
Bridal Path
An east-west connecter. Some technical sections but for the most part it just gets you from point a to point b.
Severed ****

I did not really enjoy this route. There were not a lot of man made structures and the main thing that sticks out in my mind is the amount of loose rock on the trail. I will have to ride it again some time to confirm or correct that impression.

This is also the trail that took a toll on Daryl in 1999. We rode it in the rain and it was slippery. One one steep section he took a big fall and hurt his leg. (He has since purchased leg armour) The injury was not that bad, but it took a lot of confidence out of him. Fortunately he has regained most of it. There is nothing more dangerous than riding without confidence since the mind focuses on totally the wrong things!!!

Cardiac Bypass
The name says it all.
Boogieman

This is currently my current favorite. The trail begins with a 4 foot drop off the end of a log. The first time I tried this I wiped and hit the ONLY stump in the area, but every attempt since has been a success!!! The next section of the trail is steep with the odd a-frame or ladder drop. There are many smaller drops on the trail (1-3 feet) that keep you alert. My favorite parts are the hollowed out log with the teeter totter in the middle, the long sky rides. (One of them crosses a creek and has a drop part way through)

This trail also has a stunt that I have not tried yet. It is a sky-ride about 10 feet in the air that ends with a huge ramp that drops as you ride along it... leaving you to do a 45 degree ride down. It looks impressive!

The exit from Boogieman is VERY steep and requires a lot of technical ability to negotiate the turns. Parts of it have been built up to provide a resting place since without the few platforms, a fall would take you to the end of the trail. This one require a lot of bunny hopping to turn the bike around the corners.

This trail also ends in a 10 foot drop... definately something that can not be done on a hard tail... at least not be me!!!

Cork Screw
This is a fun trail with lots of drops and bridges. A great way to start a ride!
Pingu
Pingu is a short, but steep, trail from the powerlines to the baden powell trail. This is one of the first trails that Daryl and I did on Seymour. At the time we did not know it was a black diamond trail.
Team Pangor
Pangor continues where Pingu left off. This trail has a few more man made structures than Pingu and this is where the bulk of the riding takes place. The pictures of Mark Siemens in the photo gallery were taken on this trail. It comes out onto Slash. About 2/3rds of the way down you can cut over to boogyman or from boogyman to this trail. I would suggest the first half of boogyman and end with the last part of team pangor.
Slash A short trail that leads to the Bridle path. Nothing great... but a steep 2x4 ride at the end.
Empress

Start at the little rock face and then ride down some steep slopes with drops. Very challenging, mostly because of the steep grade, tight corners and large rocks should you decide to bail. I've done it twice, but have had to walk a couple sections. It is fairly short, but a great way to end team pangor or boogyman.

Old Buck

This is a beginner trail because it is wide with no stunts... however if you are at all out of shape, this trail will show you up. It is long and steep. (Steep in terms of a climbing trail) This is the main trail to get you up to the top of all the other trails unless you take the road. (by bike or car)

Right at the end of the climb there are three steep sections, each steeper than the previous one. After riding up this trail, you know that you have earned the fun you are about to have coming down one of the other trails!!!

Baden Powell
This trail runs east-west. It climbs a little and drops a little. This and the Bridal path help you quickly get across the mountain.
Power Line
The east-west connecter at the top of many of the trails.
